FESTIVAL DE ROCK - CHIFFONS

OK, aqui começa a briga. Onde começa um plágio e onde acaba a inspiração? As Chiffons já tinham mostrado que não eram um grupo comum, mandando para as paradas uma composição da dupla Gerry Goffin e Carole King (One Fine Day). Mas foi a canção número um, He’s So Fine que começou a confusão. Já não bastava o fato de que havia um outro conjunto com o mesmo nome? Acontece que algumas músicas ficam escondidas na cabeça da gente e voltam como se fossem inéditas. Eu mesmo compus uma canção lindíssima, lenta e romântica. Seria um sucesso se não fosse, nota por nota, Syncopated Clock, de LeRoy Anderson! O mesmo acidente aconteceu com o mais genial dos Beatles, George Harrison, que recompôs He’s So Fine sob o nome de My Sweet Lord. Ele mesmo reconheceu o erro, tudo ficou bem. As Chiffons chegaram a gravar a belíssima “versão” de My Sweet Lord em 1973.

The Chiffons had proved to be a one-in-a-million group, sending to the billboard a song by the couple Gerry Goffin and Carole King (One Fine Day). But the song number one, He’s So Fine that started the rumble. Wasn’t it enough to share the place with another group with the same name? It happens some songs linger on, hidden inside our memory and return as IF they are unheard of. I, myself had this shocking experience when I composed one beautiful, slow romantic tune. It could be a hit IF it wasn’t, note by note, Syncopated Clock, by LeRoy Anderson! The same accident happened with the most brilliant among the Beatles, George Harrison, who redid He’s So Fine under the name of My Sweet Lord. He’d recognize his mistake pretty soon, and all ended well. The Chiffons would even record that wonderful “version” de My Sweet Lord in 1973.
