FESTIVAL DE ROCK - THE GROOP

Quando Midnight Cowboy nos surpreendeu com um incrível roteiro, as sensíveis atuações de Dustin Hoffman e Jon Voight e especialmente a magnífica trilha sonora de John Barry, uma canção ganhou imediatamente o meu coração, já acostumado com o som dos Mamas and Papas: A Famous Myth, interpretada pelo misterioso The Groop. Já havia um outro grupo com o mesmo nome, mas com um som bem diferente e comportado. Na ocasião se dizia que eram os próprios M&P que se escondiam atrás deste nome por razões contratuais. The Groop, no entanto, lançou seu álbum, com outras músicas também usando a mesma harmonia inventada por John Philips. Como não encontrei nenhum documento visual deles, vamos nos contentar a olhar para a capa e ouvir duas das canções postadas. Para o público brasileiro, A Famous Myth era a música favorita de Milton Nascimento, que ele incluiu em seu show mas não gravou.

When Midnight Cowboy surprised us with that wonderful script, the sensible acting of Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight and especially the superb soundtrack by John Barry, a song immediately won my heart, already accustomed to the sound of the Mamas and Papas: A Famous Myth, interpreted bu the mysterious The Groop. There was another group with the same name, but quite different and well behaving sound. By that time people suggested they were the real M&P hiding behind this name for contract reasons. The Groop, however, burned its album, with other songs using the same harmony created by John Philips. As long as I couldn’t find any visual document on them, let’s Just watch the álbum and listen to two of their songs available.
