FESTIVAL DE ROCK - YES

Formado em 1968 por Chris Squire, o Yes teve como destaque Jon Anderson e principalmente Rick Wakeman, que gravaram depois uma série de discos solo. A onda era o rock progressivo, elaborado, uma vertente promissora que colocava na mesma panela o jazz, a música clássica e o chamado rock pesado, abrindo com o álbum Yes e Time And a Word. Fragile foi um sucesso surpreendente, pois usava as harmonias ousadas de Stravinsky e a placidez de Sibelius, sem medo de errar o alvo: o jovem. Brahms foi incluído quase intacto! Os anos 70 prometiam muito, com a porta aberta pelo Sargent Pepper’s. Infelizmente a inteligência parece ter arrefecido na década seguinte, quando o Yes sucumbiu ao New Age. O próximo álbum, Close To The Edge, deu um passo adiante e foi premiado com o mesmo feito, alcançando os dez mais da parada. A produção da banda é intensa, com seus novos membros juntos ou separados. Eu tive a chance de presenciar uma performance horrorosa de Rick Wakeman no campo do Fluminense, não como cantor ou tecladista, mas como peladeiro. Felizmente Rick poupou o mundo dos seus passes.

 

Formed in 1968 by Chris Squire, Yes had as an attraction Jon Anderson but mainly Rick Wakeman, who would later release a series of solo albums. The trend was the progressive rock, elaborated, a promising slope that mixed freely the jazz, classical and the so called “heavy rock”, opening with the works Yes and Time And a Word. Fragile received a surprising acclamation, using the brainy harmonies by Stravinsky and the tranquility by Sibelius, without fear of hitting the target: the young buyer. Brahms was there, almost intact! Lots of promises for the 70’s, now that the door had been bursted by Sargent Pepper’s. Unfortunately intelligence had a decline next decade, when Yes embraced New Age. Their next album, Close To The Edge, stepped forward and was again awarded with the inclusion among the top ten in hit parade. The production of the band is intense, with their new members together or solo. But I had the chance to see the most awkward performance by Rick Wakeman in Brazilian Fluminense Stadium, not as a singer or keyboard player, but as a lousy soccer player. For our sake Rick spared the world of his passings.
