Uma faixa que ocupa o lado todo de um LP. É essa a primeira lembrança que eu tenho do Procol Harum, nos meus jovens anos de devaneio. Quantas vezes ouvi o Shine On Brightly com a reverência de quem curte Debussy? O problema com o grupo foi o estrondoso sucesso de Whiter Shade of Pale, que tocava a cada segundo em alguma rádio no mundo todo, o que levou o amigo Ivan a classificar assim “essa música é um pé no saco”. Nem tanto. Foi só o efeito acumulativo. Os nomes de Gary Brooker e Robin Trower podem ser esquecidos, mas com a ajuda de gente agradecida a banda viverá para sempre.
A track that takes one side of an LP: this is what comes to mind when I think of Procol Harum, in my young years of daydreaming. How many timed did I enjoy Shine On Brightly with the same reverence one displays listening to, say, Debussy? The problem with this group came with the roaring success of Whiter Shade of Pale, that played every single second somewhere in the radios of the world, what made my friend Ivan to state “this song sucks”. Tôo much. It’s just the effect of accumulation. The names of Gary Brooker or Robin Trower might be forgotten, but with the help of thankful fans this band will shine on forever.
